Dancers from all over flocked to Radio City Music Hall in hopes of landing a coveted spot in our Christmas Spectacular: male and female ensemble, the role of “Clara,” and of course, to be Rockettes! Join us for this year’s Christmas Spectacular—November 10, 2017 to January 1, 2018 at Radio City Music Hall.
2017 Christmas Spectacular Auditions
Male dancers warm up on Monday afternoon.
Auditions begin in the Large Rehearsal Hall.
Choreography for male ensemble hopefuls includes jazz, ballet and a routine from our “The Nutcracker” scene.
Julie Branam, Director and Choreographer of our Christmas Spectacular, overlooks the audition process.
Next up: female ensemble auditions.
More than 300 women were in attendance at Radio City Music Hall!
The female ensemble hopefuls learned jazz, ballet and a routine en pointe.
Similar to male ensemble, female ensemble auditions three at-a-time.
All dancers who made it through cuts were asked back for ensemble Callbacks!
Rockettes Katelyn and Megan, who performed as Clara in the touring production of the Christmas Spectacular as young dancers, stopped by Clara auditions to meet the girls and cheer them on!
Fun fact: All Clara hopefuls must be 4’10” and under.
The little ballerinas learned échappés…
and many other ballet combinations showcased on the Great Stage in our Christmas Spectacular!
Thursday morning kicked off with Rockettes Open Call auditions.
More than 400 women lined up outside Radio City Music Hall for a shot at their dreams!
Dancers were brought into the Grand Lounge to prep and do some last-minute paperwork.
Excitedly waiting to enter the Large Rehearsal Hall for auditions!
All dancers who audition to be Rockettes must stand between 5/6″ and 5’10.5″.
Rockette hopefuls must also be proficient in jazz, ballet…
and even tap (the Rockettes have to impress the audience for about five minutes in our “12 Days” number, after all)!
Can’t forget those eye-high kicks!
