Rockettes’ Pick for Dancer of the Week: Women’s All-Star Hockey Teams in Dance-Off

Who: The players at the Russian All-Star women’s hockey game

Their dance:

Why we chose them: Things can get pretty heated during a hockey game. But instead of checking opposing players into the boards or starting on-ice fights, the members of Russia’s All-Star women’s hockey teams found a new way to blow off steam: a dance-off!

The All-Star game, held in Kazakhstan, featured the East Team and the West Team, made up of members of Russia’s Women’s Hockey League. And while the players proved their skills during game-time, we got to see their hidden talents during the breaks.

The East Team threw down first (see video above). With a Kazakh hit as their soundtrack, the team took to the ice with their goalies in the front of their formation and the rest of the team in a semi-circle behind them. The team did their routine (in skates and full uniforms!), and one goalie even busted out the infamous Backpack Kid moves!

The West Team answered the challenge from their locker room, creating a simple formation with most players on the floor (yes, also in their skates and uniforms) and four standing on the bench behind them. Set to a tune by Russian pop star Olga Buzova, they even paid homage to the singer with a homespun Buzova jersey at the end of their routine.

While the East Team won the game 3-2, we have to give it up for both sides for their team spirit!

Fun fact: The All-Star game wasn’t just about the game: In addition to the dance-off, the players competed in Fastest Skater and Most Effective Shootout Effort contests!
