Rockettes’ Pick for Dancer of the Week: Police Officer Dancing Is The Definition Of “Happy”
Who: Officer Cody Pruitt
Why we chose him: Everyone has that song that just makes them want to drop everything and dance. For South Carolina Police Officer Cody Pruitt, that song is “Happy” by Pharrell Williams.
Officer Pruitt happened to be on duty at the Colleton County Rice Festival in Walterboro, South Carolina when Pharrell’s hit song started to play over the speakers. It wasn’t long before Officer Pruitt began tapping his toes, bopping his head, and making up his own joyful choreography as he danced and weaved through the festival goers.
While his fellow officers politely declined to join in on the fun, his happy demeanor was clearly contagious. In fact, passerby Christina Cook caught the entire routine on camera and the video has since gone viral on Facebook with over 100,000 views and counting!
After his performance, Officer Pruitt told Live 5 News he has received nothing but support from the community: “I love my community and the people of Walterboro are amazing and I was just happy to be at work.”
Oh, and did we mention he did the entire routine with a cup of ice cream in hand? Dessert and dancing—it can’t get much happier than that!
Fun fact: In 2017, Officer Pruitt was named Walterboro Police Department’s Officer of the Year; it’s not hard to see why.
