Rockettes’ Pick for Dancer of the Week: New York Liberty’s Timeless Torches
Who: New York Liberty (WNBA) Timeless Torches
Why we chose them: The Torches … they’re timeless, young at heart and bring energy and epic dance moves to the Madison Square Garden arena when the Liberty play on home court. The Timeless Torches, a dance group consisting of 13 men and women over 40 who want to share their Liberty love with the crowd, started back in 2005. While they don’t look like your average dancers or cheerleaders, this dance group knows a thing or two about busting a move.
“It’s important to us to show people that just because you may be a certain size, you shouldn’t think that you can’t do a dance move,” Margaret, who has been on the team since 2005, told amNewYork.
Fun fact: The Liberty Timeless Torches were a hit from the get-go. Not only did they get to make an appearance in a 2012 episode of 30 Rock with Tina Fey, called “Dance Like Nobody’s Watching,” but they also showed off their moves at the 2015 NBA All-Star Game in New York City.
