Rockettes’ Pick for Dancer of the Week: New York City Ballet’s Pregnant Principal Dancer
Who: Ashley Bouder of the New York City Ballet
Why we chose her: It’s safe to say that this pregnant ballerina has turned her way into the hearts of her Instagram followers (and us!). Principal dancer Ashley Bouder of the New York City Ballet Company made jaws drop when she posted this video of herself doing 15 flawless fouetté turns … six and a half months pregnant!
Even though she’s expecting her first child (a baby girl!) in April, Ashley doesn’t let that keep her from her passion. She danced Swan Lake and as The Nutcracker‘s Sugar Plum Fairy with baby on board, and even performed in the Waltz of the Flowers while four months pregnant.
Way to go, mama-to-be! Wishing you a happy, healthy and dance-filled pregnancy!
Fun fact: Ashley was named an apprentice with New York City Ballet in June 2000 and became a member of the corps de ballet that October. She was promoted to the rank of soloist in February 2004, and in January 2005, Ashley was promoted to principal dancer.
