Rockettes’ Pick for Dancer of the Week: Middle School Dance Team’s Airport Performance

Who: The Appling Middle School Dance Team

Their dance:

Why we chose them: When a Southwest Airlines ticket agent told this middle school dance squad that they couldn’t board without performing for the passengers in the terminal, they accepted the challenge!

The Appling Middle School Dance Team was Tennessee bound, returning home after competing in the Dance Team Union National Championship in Orlando, Florida.

After noticing the large trophy awarded to the team for placing 1st in hip-hop and 2nd in pom, the ticket agent knew what he had to do to bring some entertainment to the terminal. He announced there would be a performance and a crowd gathered cheering on the 17 talented girls.

Between the reaction of the audience and the expressions of the dancers, it looks like everyone was having a lot of fun. I think we could all agree that the Appling Middle School Dance Team successfully earned their entry onto the plane!

Fun Fact: According to CBS Pittsburgh, a local photojournalist was waiting to board his flight back from Orlando and caught the entire performance on video.
