Rockettes’ Pick for Dancer of the Week: Married Couple Dancing in Apple Holiday Ad
Who: Lauren Yalango-Grant and Christopher Grant
Why we chose them: Their graceful, romantic, magical performance in the new Apple holiday ad swept us off our feet. And there’s a good reason these two have such good chemistry: They’re married in real life!
The dancers featured in the ad, Lauren Yalango-Grant and Christopher Grant, met in 2007 while auditioning for Pilobolus Dance Theater in New York City. They both won a spot in the company and spent the following eight years performing and touring the world together, eventually tying the knot in 2014.
One look at the choreography in the ad and you can see they’ve developed their own unique form of partner dance. Lauren begins the minute-and-a-half performance walking down a gray and snowy city street. But when she puts in her ear buds, turns on Sam Smith’s “Palace” and begins dancing, she’s transported into another world, where the snow becomes magical and strangers become enchanting.
When she crashes right into the arms of a stranger (aka her real-life hubby), her make-believe world only becomes more beautiful. The two leap off of tables and cars (pausing, of course, to make passionate eye contact), dance across a bridge and defy gravity with wall-walking, lifts and flips that only further show their playful and trusting dynamism.
This performance takes partner-dancing to the next level.
Fun fact: Can’t get enough of this husband-wife duo’s performance? Catch another one of their equally as playful partner routines and try not to smile.
