Rockettes’ Pick for Dancer of the Week: Law Enforcement Doing the ‘Running Man’
Who: The New Zealand and New York Police Departments
Why we chose them: And with one viral video and a hashtag (#RunningManChallenge), a popular ’80s dance hit is back on the charts. It started with two New Jersey high school students who posted a video of themselves dancing to “My Boo” by Ghost Town DJs, and the social media dance craze quickly gained popularity after two University of Maryland basketball players followed suit.
Earlier this week, the New Zealand Police Department posted their own amazing video, and then threw down the gauntlet for other law and emergency departments around the world to join in on the fun, including our very own New York Police Department.
And boy, did the NYPD deliver! Using the opportunity to connect with youth in the city, they invited students from a local school in Brooklyn to help them show the world how it’s done.
Fun fact: The four gents who started the dance craze appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show to talk about the challenge and demonstrate their moves.
