Rockettes’ Pick for Dancer of the Week: John Woloski and Therapists Dancing for Stroke Awareness

Who: John Woloski

His dance:

Why we chose him: Need a healthy dose of inspiration, with an added side of giggles? Here it is! When John Woloski, a junior high school principal in Pennsylvania, found himself in the hospital after suffering a stroke, he knew he faced a long recovery ahead. To help him regain his mobility, he was referred to Allied Services Heinz Rehabilitation Hospital’s Brain Injury Rehabilitation Unit.

To say that magic happened there would be giving too much credit to chance, instead of to the hard work that John and his team of therapists and caregivers put in. And amazing progress toward recovery wasn’t the only thing they made during his 9-week intensive inpatient rehab stay.

Upon his discharge to the Home Health team, John set to work with his therapists to choreograph and perform this awesome routine to Meghan Trainor’s “All About that Bass”! Complete with props, formation changes and even a solo for John (not to mention a pretty great finale!), he and his crew show what resilience—and a great sense of humor—looks like.

We love that this video shows how far a strong spirit, a positive attitude and, most importantly, a team can take you. We wish John a smooth recovery, filled with even more dancing!

Fun fact: Wondering how Woloski has such good rhythm? He used to work as a music education teacher before becoming a principal!
