Rockettes’ Pick for Dancer of the Week: Fans Dancing in J.Views’ #WeMove Video
Who: J.Views & Fans
Why we chose them: Brooklyn-based electronic artist J.Views, aka Jonathan Dagan, created this video by calling for fans to submit footage of themselves dancing in public spaces, specifically to demonstrate the profound freedom created by moving—and dancing—without fear.
It’s all a part of the #WeMove campaign, a collaboration between J.Views and Global Citizen, a social action platform for a global generation that wants to solve the world’s biggest challenges. The goal of the #WeMove partnerships isn’t to raise money, but to support a “certain energy” you can experience when you move without fear.
“When I started to work [on the video], it upgraded itself conceptually because I asked people to move like they’re not afraid all over the world,” J.Views tells Billboard.
And the fans were into it. They recorded themselves dancing on wide open dessert highways, on house-lined streets, in snowy parks, in front of fountains and even going down escalators. Animated light beams flow through the dancers, illuminating their movement and pulsing like electricity.
“I got footage from people outside the Kremlin in Russia, outside the Big Ben in Brazil, Mexico, India, Israel. Every editing that we worked on it, there was a segment of me crying. It touched in a place that needed to be touched for so long. It felt like a presentation of global unity to me.”
Consider us inspired.
Fun fact: Like what you hear? J.Views’ new album comes out Thursday, Oct. 5!
