How Nick Lachey Almost Got Me to Switch My Sports Allegiance

Rockettes Reflections

By Sarah G.

Throughout their 90-year history, the world-famous Rockettes have shared the stage—and unforgettable adventures—with many other world-famous personalities. They have appeared at such iconic events as the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and the Super Bowl and on TV shows like America’s Got Talent and Night of 100 Stars. The Rockettes are taking a moment to reflect on their favorite stardust memories.

Everyone has an actor or singer who was a childhood favorite who you will always love. For me, it’s actor and singer Nick Lachey—he’ll always be a 98 Degrees member in my eyes.

Sometimes meeting childhood heroes can be disheartening when your expectation doesn’t live up to the reality … but this wasn’t the case with Nick!

Each year, the Rockettes perform at the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony and I was lucky enough to be chosen in the 2014 season! While we were in a cafeteria-like holding room waiting to perform with the rest of the talent for the evening, I spotted Nick on the opposite end of the room chatting with another person.

I got really excited for a chance to talk to him as we are both sports fans and Ohio natives. Growing up in Columbus, the Ohio State University football team was always a part of my life.

When I approached Nick, I asked him if I could take an “O-H-I-O” photo with him because that’s what die-hard Ohio State Football-loving sports fans do. (It’s a photograph where each person makes a single letter of the word “O-H-I-O” with their body.)

He immediately told me he was a “CATS” (Cincinnati Bearcats) fan but agreed to a snapshot since we both have a deep love for Ohio sports teams.

The two of us chatted a bit longer after we took the photo, and then he wished us luck on our two performances that evening.

After all of his years of Hollywood fame, he was one of the nicest, down-to-earth people I’ve ever met! Go CATS!
